Sprinting Through (Loopy) Grad School

Unlike many of the graduate students that I teach, I tried to make this fall Not a Ridiculous Self-Challenge.  It may yet prove me otherwise but so far, I'm making good progress on projects and not feeling totally overwhelmed -- at least not by my Loopy Grad Academy plans.  The rest of life....well, that's just how fall is, isn't it?

Some finished objects for you even! This is the Summa Stripes Shawl by Meiju K-P.  It's a very fast knit, from cast on to finish was 8 days. A whole shawl in 8 days! And that was still with me going to work and not even abandoning all commitments for sitting in front of the TV and knitting (though, that's very tempting--even now).

The hardest part is getting this to photograph. The yarn is Uncommon Thread Merino DK and that blue *glows*.  It's absolutely gorgeous under sunlight. But our apartment doesn't get a lot of direct sunlight except in the kitchen and there's not really ideal space in there for photography.

That said, this third picture was done with the night vision setting on my Pixel phone and I was incredibly pleased with how well it captured the colors, without flash blowing things out etc.  I need to block the shawl still and then it goes off to the gift bin.

I also finished the Aggregate shawl that I showed off earlier:

I was a bit disappointed with the pattern insofar as it suggested that this could be completed with 392 yards. I'm not sure if my gauge was wildly off or what, but 400 yards wasn't enough and I easily could have used another 50 yards of each color. If I knit it again, I'd plan for at least that much more.

However, it is squishy yarn and everyone who sees it has commented on how interesting the pattern is.  This was also a very short knit -- also 8 days.  No, I didn't at all plan that.  And I certainly won't get through the third shawl in 8 days.

So I'm now 2/3rds of the way through my first graduate semester and it's only the first week of October! Note how very obviously I'm avoiding any discussion of Christmas knitting... which I have not yet started. And the list for which this year is not short....
