Calling It for 2019

I know, there are three days left. So much knitting potential. And part of me is wondering if I could break out that sweater that needs only a sleeve and a half and finish that up over the next couple of days.

It's possible, but today I started to notice the hand blowout I get every December, where there's some pangs in my hands reminding me that motions other than knitting stitches would be welcome.  So here are the final two projects for 2019 and the final claimed yardage, courtesy of KnitMeter:

For those of us more mileage based -- that's 9.8 miles of yarn off my needles this  year. I'm pretty pleased with that, though I'd be lying if I didn't tell you I'm sitting here wondering "but couldn't I just finished another 150 meters? It's only a hat; I could totally reach 16K" That way lies sore hands and a wholly ignored to do list that is already mocking me.

So let's see what last I did finish, shall we?

Welcome back to the 1970s? I'm told this is when these were all the rage.  M requested a wine poodle and I was happy to oblige, though what I could find in the way of a pattern was woefully in adequate and I had to re-invent it on the fly. I kept notes and I'm hoping to do a better second one in 2020.  To quote Amy Florence, who has been my constant companion of late as I listen to old episodes of her podcast while knitting "we shall see."

The yarn is Knitpicks Cotlin and I realize I really hate making tiny pompoms.  I'm going to see about getting the clover extra small pompom maker and hope like crazy that it's small enough.

I've also just whipped through my last Loopy Academy Graduate project. Like all good grad students, the first two projects were done in a timely and more leisurely fashion and this one was last minute and hasty. Ah well, it's done at least. And it's wet and blocking and I've uploaded a picture to The Loopy Ewe for my imaginary points.

The yarn is JulieSpins in her MCN base in the Crunchy colorway. It's very autumnal with pops of hot pink that I find really entrancing.  This is going into the gift bin while I decide if I want to wear it or if I identify someone it would be perfect for. The bin is looking a bit sparse at the moment; so refilling with future Exactly Right Gifts is needed in 2020.

I can't be the only knitter who does that, right? Knits mostly what I want with a healthy dose of planned knitting but then there are things I don't have a plan for? A lot of projects go into the bin for a year or two while I sort out the actual home for them. This has served me any number of times, when I go rummaging and realize that oh, yes, that's who that was for; I just didn't know it when I was knitting it.  Serendipity when I need it most often, a well stocked gift bin of woolies.

Tomorrow morning I'll wind up a skein of sock yarn or such for the sock knitting that will need to  attend New Year's Eve.

But for now this has been 2019:
14 Hats
8 Pair Socks
2 Baby Blankets
10 Shawls/Shawlettes/Scarves
4 Baby Sweaters
2 Tea Cozies
1 Wine Poodle
1 Pair mitts
4 cowls

And somehow I have even more yarn than I started the year with....

Wishing you a restful last couple of days and a joyous new year.

A Redo

I started this pair of socks on New Years Eve just before 2020. I finished them in May 2020 , amidst a lot of optimism about what I'd a...
