None of My Other Hats Worked

The Philosopher and I jetted off to Dublin for a delightful weekend celebrating the birthday of one of my favorite globe-trotters, who has been away from us for several months and posting the most enviable pictures. Two days before we left, despite a ridiculous list of things left to do, cleaning, packing, and emails -- I decided I liked none of my current hats and cast on a new one.

The yarn is Oink Pigments Worsted in the Sex and Violets colorway. This used just over half a skein and was exactly what I was looking for: a cushy warm and simple hat.  It's a slightly redder purple than is showing here and there's a subtlety to the dying, with brighter and darker tints that I am really having trouble catching on camera. You'll have to trust that Oink does a lovely job and go see their colors yourself!

I put in a few cables just to keep things a bit interesting but it's a 2x2 ribbing on Size 5 needles and then a 1x1 ribbing until it seemed "long enough" and a general vague understanding of decreases.  And I wore it all over Dublin.

No doubt it'll be in high rotation next fall for tailgates, but for  now it's going into the bin for regular wearing while I re-knit one of the other hats I knit this year which has stretched out unforgivably already.
