Color Kittens Yarn!

My Managing Editor from a former life is now the brains and effort behind Indie Untangled.  A long way from late nights in the newsroom eating really really rubbish Sbarro pizza. This means that periodically I am bowled over by an indie dyer that I've never heard of, courtesy of said old colleague and her oh-so-helpful Twitter threads, newsletter, website, etc...   Seriously, go sign up, it's always entertaining.

Most recently was My Mama Knits, who sends mail from the UK (Scotland Borders per her Rav).  She found an old childhood favorite book of mine and made colors to match!!

Among my friends, I am the only one who seems to remember Brush and Hush by Margaret Wise Brown and all of their explorations of colors. I wasn't sure what I might do with things, so I got all miniskeins. Gypsy was really delighted to help me unpack international mail.

Besides the kittens, there are of course the three primary colors which the kittens blend to make all of the other colors of the rainbow. These colors area truly primary and would be jarring against the other 8 colors that I got.  But they match the pictures spot on. All of these are on her Sock Base- Choufunga. It's very soft.

While I skipped ahead hear in the story to one of the final pages, Brown does take you through blending to create all sorts of colors -- golden pears, and brown goats. But at the end we see all the colors blending together and being created and here's the compilation that the dyer also gives us!

Here's the whole bundle. The skeins are so wee compared to my usual 400+ yard behemouths. These are about 85 yards each, so I've got quite a lot of yarn. I just...don't know what to *do* with it yet.  The six-pack and the two kitten colors will do a nice large shawl, nearly 700 yards there to work with. The other three?  Maybe I'll make a toy or a baby hat or some such.

Now I'm wondering what other childhood stories have been rendered in yarn and whether or not I *really* need them. For all that spare space in the stash.
